A good home bar starts with the drinks you want to serve and the space available. This checklist helps you choose the right equipment before installation, whether you want one home beer tap, a stout setup or a multi-tap draught system.

Start With the Beer and Keg Format

Choose the beer before buying hardware. Conventional 20L, 30L and 50L kegs may require a coupler, gas, regulator and cooling system. BLADE uses dedicated 8L kegs, PerfectDraft uses dedicated 6L kegs, and 5L mini kegs follow the instructions on the individual package.

Choose the Right Home Beer Tap

A standard beer tap is suitable for many carbonated lagers, ales and ciders. Guinness Draught and similar nitrogenated stouts require a proper stout tap with a restrictor plate. A beer tower provides a finished counter-mounted arrangement and can hold one or more taps.

Compare the current beer taps and towers. Decide how many different drinks you genuinely expect to serve at once before buying a multi-tap system.

Match the Keg Coupler

Couplers are not universal. A, D, G, S and U systems fit different keg valves. Check the exact product listing rather than guessing from the brewery or country. The Guinness kegs supplied by TheKegCru use a U-type coupler.

Select Gas and a Compatible Regulator

Many lagers, ales and ciders use food-grade CO₂. Guinness Draught uses 75% nitrogen and 25% CO₂ at 35–38 PSI with the correct stout system. The cylinder valve, regulator and gas type must be compatible; never force threads or improvise adaptors.

Plan Cooling Before the Countertop

Warm beer is one of the main causes of foam. A kegerator chills the keg itself, while an inline cooler chills beer on its route to the tap. The right option depends on available space, frequency of use, keg size and serving volume.

Measure the equipment area, doorways, ventilation clearance and route for lines before ordering. Compare beer coolers and kegerators.

Beer Lines and Fittings

Line diameter, length and fittings affect flow. Match every port and connector to the equipment specification, use food-grade beer line, and keep the route simple. Buy compatible components together rather than changing line size merely to fit an existing connector.

Cleaning Equipment Is Essential

Include cleaning products in the original budget. Beer residue in the line, tap or coupler can affect flavour, head retention and hygiene. Follow the cleaning chemical and equipment instructions, rinse correctly and replace worn seals or damaged line.
