BLADE Beer Machine & 8L Kegs: Complete Guide
Share
BLADE is a compact draught beer system built around dedicated 8-litre kegs. It is designed for anyone who wants chilled draught beer without the gas cylinder, external cooler and keg coupler required by a conventional full-size setup.
This Ireland-focused guide explains the BLADE beer machine, keg capacity, setup, storage and common pouring checks. Browse the current BLADE kegs available from TheKegCru or view the BLADE 8L beer machine.
How Does a BLADE Beer Machine Work?
The machine cools and dispenses beer from a sealed, dedicated BLADE keg. The keg is already designed for the BLADE compression system, so a separate CO₂ cylinder, gas regulator or conventional keg coupler is not required. It is not compatible with 5L mini kegs, 6L PerfectDraft kegs or pub-style 20L, 30L and 50L kegs.
BLADE Machine Specifications
| Feature | Specification |
|---|---|
| Keg capacity | 8 litres |
| Approximate yield | About 14 Irish pints before foam or wastage |
| Serving temperature | Approximately 2°C |
| Machine dimensions | 590 × 471 × 290 mm |
| Machine weight | Approximately 17.6 kg |
| External gas | Not required |
Leave adequate clearance for ventilation and check the instructions supplied with the machine before choosing its permanent position.
How Many Pints Are in an 8L BLADE Keg?
Eight litres equals approximately 14.1 Irish pints based on a 568 ml pint. Real serving yield can be slightly lower because of foam and beer remaining in the line. A cold keg, clean tap and fully opened tap handle help reduce waste.
Which Kegs Fit the BLADE Machine?
Use only kegs specifically labelled as BLADE-compatible 8L kegs. The available range can change, so check the live BLADE keg collection rather than assuming a particular beer is always stocked.
- 8L BLADE kegs: compatible.
- 5L mini kegs: not compatible.
- 6L PerfectDraft kegs: not compatible.
- Standard pub kegs: not compatible.
Installing an 8L BLADE Keg
- Place the machine on a stable, level surface with suitable ventilation.
- Check that the machine and tap components are clean.
- Chill the keg in advance where possible; a warm keg takes longer to reach serving temperature.
- Remove the keg packaging and connect it exactly as shown in the machine instructions.
- Load and secure the keg, then close the machine correctly.
- Switch the machine on and wait until the temperature indicator confirms the beer is ready.
- Use a clean glass and open the tap fully for each pour.
How Long Does a BLADE Keg Stay Fresh?
A correctly installed keg can remain fresh for up to 30 days when kept chilled in the operating machine. The best-before date on the keg still applies. Do not use a leaking, damaged or swollen keg, and follow the product instructions if they specify a shorter period.
Why Is My BLADE Beer Foamy?
The most common checks are temperature, keg handling, cleanliness and tap technique. Allow a transported keg to settle, make sure it is fully chilled, use a clean glass and pull the tap fully open. A partly opened tap creates turbulence and often increases foam.
- Confirm the machine has reached serving temperature.
- Check that the keg and connection are installed correctly.
- Make sure the tap and spout are clean.
- Hold the glass at approximately 45 degrees for the first part of the pour.
- Do not shake or repeatedly move the keg before serving.
BLADE vs PerfectDraft and 5L Mini Kegs
| System | Keg size | Machine required? |
|---|---|---|
| BLADE | 8L | Yes, a BLADE machine |
| PerfectDraft | 6L | Yes, a compatible PerfectDraft machine |
| 5L mini keg | 5L | Depends on the exact keg; many have an integrated tap |
| Conventional draught keg | Usually 20L, 30L or 50L | Requires compatible cooling, gas, coupler and tap equipment |
Choosing BLADE Kegs in Ireland
BLADE suits customers who already own the machine and want an easy-to-change 8L draught format. Check each product listing for beer style, ABV, best-before information, stock and delivery eligibility. BLADE kegs do not replace the machine itself and cannot be connected to a standard home-bar coupler.
